Apr. 6th, 2012 07:22 pmNAME: Yagyū Maiko.
AGE: 17.
LOCATION: Tokyo.
ALIGNMENT: Gemini.
ABILITY: Extreme durability. Maiko is borderline invulnerable when she's in motion, provided she gains enough momentum. Post-choice, when propelled with sufficient force, she could potentially knock down a building.
The Yagyū clan and swordsmanship have a relationship that traces back to feudal times. The legacy of its swordsmen has carried on to the modern day, passed down through various branches of the family and the kenjutsu schools that began with Yagyū Munetoshi.
Maiko, the younger of two siblings, comes from a prominent branch of the family based in Osaka. Her family has known about the impending apocalypse for some time now, and her elder brother Hidetoshi had been raised in preparation for it. There were dreamseers in their history, and it was foretold that one of their children would one day be called upon to fight at the end of the world. They just assumed it would be the boy.
In early 2009, Hidetoshi died in a car accident returning home from his studies, leaving Maiko as the heir. Clumsy but good-natured and obedient, Maiko was thrust into training before she'd been given any time to mourn, her previous study of the family style under the tutelage of her father now considered insufficient. She was sent away to study at a Yagyū Shinkage-ryū school based in Tokyo. She now resides in Nakano-ku, where she lives with her uncle's family, waiting for the end of the world to come. Her swordsmanship has always been hopeless at best, despite her pedigree and best efforts, so she's been trained instead with a focus in jōjutsu.
Maiko is a relatively simple girl; she does what she's told and is happy with that. She isn't sure what her exact role is supposed to be, the details having become increasingly muddied over time, but Maiko has never been the type of girl to question the words of people wiser than she is. In general, Maiko maintains a sunny disposition. She talks a lot and very quickly, in her own special blend of Osakaben and "regular" Japanese, is prone to losing her train of thought and resorting to nervous babbling.
